Where to

TRAVEL

In North America, spaces are vast and driving distances great. Do not make the mistake of trying to do too much, or you will spend most of your vacation just driving from point to point. It's better to see a smaller area, more leisurely and in greater depth. For overseas guests who must see both coasts in a single trip, we suggest visiting one of them by plane, after your Motorhome trip, while en route home.

While some large rental organizations offer one-way travel, you will probably want to plan a circular trip, beginning and ending in the locality where you pick up your rental unit. Some possibilities:

Canada ... Spans the Continent from the Atlantic maritime provinces to the Pacific coast in British Columbia. Most of the population centers lie within 100 miles of the U.S. border; farther north are vast areas of wilderness.

New England - Boston/Seacoasts ... Visit historic cities, scenic mountains and quaint fishing villages in one compact region.

New York - Manhattan/ Mountains/Lakes ... There are commercial campgrounds just outside New York City, with trains or buses to Manhattan.

Middle Atlantic - Historic Philadelphia, Washington ... Stay at campgrounds just outside major cities ... visit mountains, seacoasts as well.

Southeast - Disney World/ Florida beaches/Historic Charleston, Savannah ... a huge region, with many destinations . . . ideal for winter travel.

South - New Orleans/ Nashville/Gulf Coast ... French and Spanish charm, country music, sandy beaches; another good winter destination.

Midwest - Chicago/Detroit/ St. Louis and America's heartland ... large, rural, friendly, with interesting cities, lakes and attractions.

Texas - Dallas/Houston/San Antonio ... Where the old west lives side by side with modern cities and Mexican charm. Larger than most European countries.

Rocky Mountains - Denver/ Salt Lake City/Yellowstone/ Cheyenne ... The America of mountains, cowboys, rodeos, ranches, ghost towns, national parks - the real West.

Southwest - Phoenix/Santa Fe/Grand Canyon ... Land of deserts, Indians, spectacular scenery ... great warm-weather destination for colder months. You should avoid desert travel in extreme Summer heat.

Pacific Coast - San Diego/ Los Angeles/San Francisco/ Seattle/Giant Redwoods ... California, an empire unto itself, shares the Pacific shores with Oregon and Washington state, plus British Columbia and Alaska.

Mexico - Offers a unique blend of Spanish and Indian cultures, plus archaeological sites and spectacular scenery. First-timers may prefer to travel in an organized caravan. Special insurance is required. Not all rental agents permit their units to enter Mexico; be sure to check yours well in advance of your trip.

Most families will want the space and comfort of a full-size Motorhome. Smaller units are ideal for smaller parties or those who want to 'rough it.'
